This opera by Rossini has a symmetry with the Barber of Seville, composeda year earlier. It has a simple and humorous libretto with a highly refined andcomplex music. The scenarios, a decaying castle and a castle of crystal, werebased on drawings by Giuseppe Galli, designer of the eighteenth centurythat made imaginary projects with unrealistic perspectives. This caused aninteresting strangeness for the visual effect for the show.
