This love story of a white girl with an indian was the first Brazilian opera toachieve worldwide impact, and snippets of its music are, to date, expressionof national identity. The first assembly would be in Manaus, at the heart ofthe rainforest, where indigenous roots are evident in every corner of the city.It was difficult to create a scenario which referred to the indigenous universewithout being superficial. The period of great navigations, which refers to thestories of the discovery of Brazil, gave us the idea of sails and maps. Wepunctuated the stage with wooden masts and sails with old maps painted onit. At each sail hoisted, the scenic space was defined.
