This “dramma giocoso” was initially inspired by a series of prints called “Mariage à-la-mode”, by William Hogarth, where the artist satirizes the way how, in his day, marriages were negotiated without considering the opinions and feelings of young people involved. These engravings were the starting point for the work of art direction and a series of experiments involving the project. We wanted that the scenery and costumes made a direct reference of the engravings’ elaboration. The scenario consists of a series of double painted walls on a base of transparent tissue. The walls have casters that allow singers to quickly redesign the plant for each scene. The costume keeps the same idea of overlay materials and paint treatment.
